Former heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson dived into the ocean to knock out a shark in Discovery Channel’s Shark Week special, Tyson vs. Jaws: Rumble on the Reef.
In a teaser for the program, Tyson uttered the words, “I’m scared to death.” It’s not something many would expect to hear from the fierce athlete. However, he took on the challenge to put a shark to sleep with his bare hands in a three-round format.
Tyson worked with scientists at the Bahamas to get used to the location filled with lemon sharks, reef sharks, bull sharks, and more.
In the first round, Tyson went underwater in a cage, and in the next, he decided to step out and push away the sharks whenever they came in close contact with him.
Tyson finally managed to hold onto a shark in the third round and put it into tonic immobility, which causes a temporary inactivity in sharks. Though this isn’t the knockout expected by fans of Tyson in the ring, he still overcame his fear of sharks and even put one down.
