Novotel in Melbourne, Australia’s South Wharf had social media users cross-eyed over its illuminated sign conveying the message, “Stay Home.”
To remind passersby to remain responsible during the COVID-19 crisis, the hotel strategically switched on the lights in some rooms to read “STAY” from the outside, as well as lit up several on the lower levels to form the shape of a house.

To the hotel’s credit, the sign kind of did its job, as people ended up spending more time in front of their computer screens at home trying to decipher the message.
After Nine News reporter Andrew Lund shared the scene on Twitter and applauded the “very clever” move, social media users swarmed in to dictate the message in the numerous unique ways they saw it.
Some joked that the sign read as “Stay Gladiator,” while others thought the symbol resembled aliens from Space Invaders. Some said all they saw was a ghost from Pac-Man.
Obviously, the actual message was received, and the attempt at humor was just one of the many avenues people resorted to as a way of comfort during the pandemic.
