PANTONE has announced a new partnership with rapper Nas.
The duo created a new shade dubbed ‘ULTRA BLACK By Nas’, which comes with accompanying merchandise including t-shirts, playing cards and coasters. According to Nas, ULTRA BLACK’ isn’t just the title of his new song, but it also honors the black community and the ongoing fight of racial justice in many parts of the world.
“It was only right that we work with PANTONE on this project, the color experts. This one’s from the heart, something the world will feel, the whole vibe of 2020,” Nas explained.
While the shade is often associated with “feelings of darkness,” Nas hopes that ‘ULTRA BLACK’ will signify richness, complexity, as well as beauty. On top of that, it should symbolize “power, legacy, fortitude and interconnectedness of everyone.” The swatch additionally represents unification, joy and a bright future.
“Supporting Ultra Black with this new ‘ULTRA BLACK’ color helps Nas share his message in a visually impactful way, one that will further ensure the global reach of his inspiring and uplifting message,” PANTONE’s vice president Laurie Pressman said.
