SkyDrive, supported by Toyota, held a public test flight for its flying car in Japan. The startup showcased its SD-03 vehicle, which was manned by a driver at the Toyota Test Field.
According to Observer, the vehicle is distinguished as the smallest electric VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) vehicle in the world.
The company hopes to bring “new means of transportation” via flying cars, which currently feature eight rotors for support in case of a motor malfunction.
SkyDrive is awaiting approval to embark on flights beyond the test field by the end of this year. It is also developing a two-seat commercial automotive that is set to be released by 2023 in time for Japan’s flying taxi service.
