McDonald’s restaurants around the world are designed differently according to the cultures and interests of the specific countries. However, the one in Taupo, New Zealand takes the cake as possibly the “world’s coolest McDonald’s” outlet.
The McDonald’s diner includes a decommissioned Douglas DC-3 plane as its exterior. The plane itself can fit up to 20 customers across 10 tables, with the aircraft’s seating arrangement seemingly retained.
The iconic McDonald’s logo has been plastered on the plane for over 30 years since the company bought it from a car dealership called Aeroplane Car Company.
“Our locals are very proud of it,” McDonald’s owner Eileen Byrne told Insider. “It has become a landmark here in New Zealand.”
The restaurant was shut down when the pandemic struck, and reopened in May after the nation experienced three consecutive days without new COVID-19 cases.
