Apple iPad Pro users are singing the blues, but for unexpected reasons. The all-new, M4 chip-powered device, has been saturated with a curious glitch—the flagship tablet appears to grapple with displaying certain shades of blue, particularly in HDR content.
The problem is most noticeable when displaying HDR highlights in shades of blue, such as navy and indigo. These tones can appear overly bright, almost white, on the screen.
For example, in the Netflix series Stranger Things (as seen on iMore), the character Steve Harrington’s navy shirt appears washed out.
Thankfully, Apple has acknowledged the issue and assures users it’s software gremlin, not a hardware gremlin. This means a future iPadOS update should iron out the wrinkles and restore the display's full chromatic potential. The problem appears to be limited to the image processing engine and isn’t present in other OLED devices like the iPhone 15 Pro.
In the meantime, iPad Pro owners can rest easy knowing that a solution is on the horizon.
