As news of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death swept across the nation last Friday, State Street Advisors took out a whole page ad on the New York Times to pay special homage to the Supreme Court Justice hero.
The powerful ad showed the statue of Fearless Girl donning a lace collar, similar to the one often worn by Ginsburg. Above the image read the line, “Here’s to the original.”
According to Ad Age, her collars weren’t just worn to spruce up the dark judicial robes. The New York Times reported that the lace collars were meant to express her femininity amid a “traditionally male uniform” and her presence as a woman on the court.
The collars also acted as a “weapon” in decision-making—a crocheted one meant she was making majority opinions, while a spiky design referred to diversified ones.
The ad was produced by creative agency McCann in less than eight hours. The collar was borrowed from Ginsberg’s costume belonging to one of the agency’s employees and placed around the statue’s neck.
Here's to the original. #FearlessGirl #shareworthy
