Apple’s latest software update features a “warning dot” that allows users to see whether they are being watched or listened to.
iOS 14 displays a small orange dot at the top corner of the iPhone display to let you know if your microphone is activated. The noticeable dot is found just above the signal bars and next to the battery indicator.
If its color switches to green, it means your camera is activated and the app is “watching.”
“An indicator appears at the top of your screen whenever an app is using your microphone or camera,” Apple states. “And in Control Center, you can see if an app has used them recently.”
iPhone users can go to their phone’s Control Center to see if an app has used the microphone or camera. They can then deny it access or delete the app altogether.
This crucial indicator is part of Apple’s security feature aiming to give users a peace of mind about camera privacy.
“Privacy is a fundamental human right and at the core of everything we do,” Apple states on its website. “With iOS 14, we are giving you more control over the data you share and more transparency into how it’s used.”
