At this point, most people who don’t pay heed to COVID-19 prevention regulations are likely just being stubborn in favor of convenience. Fed up with those who pretend they haven’t gotten the memo—it’s been at least nine months, folks—Twitter has embarked on a massive campaign drilling mask-wearing guidelines online and offline.
On its own Twitter profile, the social network revamped its logo to show the bird mascot wearing a face cover, as well as set its location to “everywhere, wearing a mask.”
“The only thing we want going viral is this Tweet #WearAMask,” it tweeted.
The company also seemed to ridicule people who can’t follow simple steps with a foolproof emoji guide on how to put on a mask: don’t wear it like an eyepatch, don’t dangle it from your ear—just cover your mouth like a normal person.
Across America, the tech giant put up billboards of real, snarky tweets from frustrated users. “I love masks… I can finally talk to myself in peace,” says an ad in Chicago. “People who wear a mask are considered more attractive, remember that,” another reads.
Twitter shared in its new profile bio, “It’s not like we’re asking you to wear pants.”
