Photo editing app Gradient, endorsed by celebrities like Scott Disick, has suffered backlash after unveiling a new feature that allows people to alter their ethnicity in images.
The feature, called AI Face, uses artificial intelligence to adjust the user’s face and show how “you would look if you were born on a different continent,” per Gradient’s website. It alters skin colors and face shapes based on physical attributes apparent in continents or countries like Brazil and India.
The feature was promoted by television personalities Scott Disick and Brody Jenner. Jenner and Disick posted their altered images on Twitter, showing how they would look if they were from “Europe,” “Asia” and “Africa.”
“You need to try this new feature in the Gradient app,” Jenner tweeted last Tuesday.
Their tweets have angered several internet users, who slammed the feature for being “racist” and promoting “blackface.” A TikTok user responded, “This doesn’t sit right with me,” after seeing influencer Danielle Cohn also trying out the app.
Disick and Jenner have taken down their posts but have not commented on them.

The layers....there are so many obvious wrongs in one place...it's blowing my mind actually. Also there is something so bleak in itself about being Brody Jenner and tweeting a sponsored post about the Gradient app
