Marvel fans have seen various depictions of Peter Parker on screen, but there’s one version they had never expected to see.
PlayStation 5 will soon see the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which features the same gameplay with significant graphical improvements at a higher frame rate. Surprising as they are, fans have been distracted at the fact that Spider-Man has been recast with a familiar, but not quite, face.
The face of Peter Parker, previously modeled after actor John Bubniak, is now “remastered” with the face of British model Ben Jordan by way of developer Insomniac Games.
Sony PlayStation reasoned that the team wanted “a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture” and Jordan seemed to do the part, letting “Yuri’s moving performances take on a new life.”
Gamers, however, wonder if there’s another reason why the character has been recast. Jordan seems to bear a remarkable resemblance to Tom Holland, who played Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Further, fans find it rather strange that Peter Parker is meant to look older in this game, but the redesign has him appearing younger than Spider-Man mentee Miles Morales.
Responding to backlash, Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar stresses, “Today’s news about the new Peter Parker face model has surprised some of you, and we at Insomniac totally understand your reaction. Heck, it even took me awhile to get used to Peter’s new look. We care as much about this character as your attachment to him, so please know we didn’t make this decision/change lightly.”
Intihar says developers will continue to observe the crowd’s reactions to see how to “improve every facet of the game.”
On the other side, he has also asked for players’ understanding on the studio’s decision to cast Jordan. “I hope you can trust us that this decision is what we feel is best for the future of the franchise and our upcoming goals for this beloved Marvel character,” Intihar concludes.

Something I'm less of a fan of? They changed Peter's model for Spider-Man PS5. Now he looks alot younger? And strangely, like Tom Holland? Which is kinda at odds with the "I've been Spidey for a while" time frame they had set up. Feels just as young as Miles was. pic.twitter.com/j5h57nb4PV
