Danny Boyle’s adaptation of Trainspotting is known for its memorable “Choose Life” monologue, which is now being reimagined for a new climate crisis campaign by Project Everyone and The Climate Coalition.
The Choose Life Now campaign has released an advert with Trainspotting star Kelly MacDonald narrating the urgency of environmental change. The initiative is also supported by actor Robert Carlyle, who starred as Begbie in the film.
The advert follows the film’s monologue style and even includes Iggy Pop’s Lust for life tune in the background. This time, however, the narration urges people to choose life in regard to sustainable life choices. Some of the replaced phrases are “choose greener, cleaner, smarter” and “choose kindness.”
The project aims to bring awareness to climate change ahead of the UK hosting the UN Climate Summer (COP26) in 2021. The platform has provided resources for the public to take action in various ways. There is also a declaration by The Climate Coalition that prompts people to sign and make a promise to be more environmentally conscious.
“The film, declaration, and educational resources should inspire us all to not choose to return to the old ways but to build a better world that is guided by the Global Goals – and Choose Life,” the campaign’s statement read.
