Vice President Mike Pence and senator Kamala Harris sat down for the vice presidential debate on 7 October 2020. While the two candidates expressed their views regarding several issues in the country, social media users were drawn to a random fly that sat atop Pence’s hair for two whole minutes.
Pence’s six-legged companion took off online and became the buzz of the event as the word “flies” ended up as a trending topic on Twitter almost immediately after the insect appeared on television.
Resting on Pence’s head for two minutes, the fly turned into fodder for hilarious memes. There is even a dedicated Twitter account called Mike Pence’s Fly.
Joe Biden’s campaign decided to make the most of the gaffe by releasing a commemorative “Truth Over Flies Fly Swatter” on its official merchandise website.
Reviewing the tapes. Fly appears on Mike Pence's head at 10:17:08 and doesn't leave until 10:19:10. MORE THAN TWO MINUTES! Here is the precise moment, Zaprudized, when the fly makes lift off and leaves the debate. pic.twitter.com/OSfSjjBlfX
