Oreo has built a small vault in Norway to protect its cookies from doomsday.
Well, actually, the company has created the vault ahead of something closer than the end of the world. CNET reported that the stunt was developed in time for the “Election Day asteroid” set to pass by Earth on 2 November 2020.
Oreo recently shared a video to give a sneak peek into how the concrete locker was created. The team explained that the idea came from a social media user asking the company about who would save the delicious treats if impact from an asteroid does occur.
This led the company to create the building with inspiration from doomsday shelters in the area. The location is also home to the Seed Vaults, which stockpile food crops in the event of an apocalypse.
The Oreo packs are all wrapped in mylar to withstand temperatures from -80 degrees to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and prevent contamination from chemical reactions, moisture, and air. This gives humanity hope that there will be scrumptious cookies fresh and ready in the darkest times.
