The infamous murder hornets, officially known as the Asian giant hornets, have caused quite a stir this year when they made their way to American shores. Now, scientists have managed to destroy the insects’ first nest spotted in Blaine, Washington State.
The team had captured three hornets to be able to locate their source. Though the first two managed to flee, the third time was the charm because scientists finally successfully tracked the first hornet’s nest with the last insect.
According to the Associated Press, researchers tied a tracking device to a hornet with dental floss to lead them to the nest in tree. The nest was around the size of a basketball and contained around 100 to 200 hornets.
The name “murder hornets” came about due to their ability to exterminate huge bee populations, affecting the ecosystem. So, this is good news.
