Facebook Previews Smart Glasses That Amplify Sounds For Objects You Look At

The Facebook Reality Labs Research team has unveiled the prototype for its AR glasses, which are designed to boost the wearer’s hearing abilities.
The smart eyewear captures sounds around the wearer, and then monitors patterns from their head and eye movements to look for sounds that they might be most keen on hearing.
The technology will then amplify the right sound, and dim the others around the wearer, making it especially useful in social events and environments like bars, and restaurants.
To start out, the team studied scenarios where hearing could be limited. It also explored beamforming technology, deep learning, noise cancellation, and augmented reality.
Through augmented reality, the glasses will let the wearer control which sounds they want to increase, and the rest of the sounds they would like to decrease, by toggling the sound channels accordingly.
