Alongside the iPhone 12, new MagSafe cases and the MagSafe charger, Apple also released a Leather Wallet with magnets at the back of it so you can attach it to an iPhone.
The US$59 iPhone Leather Wallet comes in various colors—Baltic Blue, California Poppy, Saddle Brown and Black. The accessory, which has a little cutout for the thumb to slide a card out easily, can be attached directly to an iPhone 12 or to a MagSafe case.
However, based on a hands-on review by MacRumors, the wallet has a serious design flaw.
While the magnet in the Leather Wallet is strong enough to stick to the case and keep it in place even when you shake the iPhone, it “pops right off” when you simply tap it a few times.
Also, as seen in the video below, the wallet slides right out when you don’t align it right, leaving your cards on the ground while your phone stays in your pocket.
Users have tweeted their displeasure, with one writing, “It’s useless as a wallet, it falls off as you put in pocket. Terrible design choice.”
