Rolls-Royce took a chance and gave the most popular motor car in its 116-year history, the Ghost, a complete overhaul. New Ghost and Ghost Extended, unveiled 11 years after the original first took the road in 2009, are the incarnations of the company’s self-proclaimed “post-opulent” ethos.
According to the marque, New Ghost is the cautious culmination of feedback from customers who wanted a more minimalist design in line with the times. Rolls-Royce took the desire for reduction seriously, stripping the original Ghost down to its signature Spirit of Ecstasy and umbrellas.

For the first time ever, the Spirit of Ecstasy icon is surrounded by her own “lake” of smooth bonnet, rather than panel lines.

New Ghost is designed with an all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, and self-leveling, allowing for an effortless and agile driving experience. A world-first ‘Planar Suspension System’ mimics flight on land and creates a “magic carpet ride” effect.
Its 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine delivers 420kW and 627lb to reach a speed of 100km/h (62mph) in just 4.8 seconds.
New Ghost’s interior stays true to its commitment to minimalism, and is decked stylishly with quality leathers, veneer and metals.

There’s—surprise, surprise—a Champagne fridge stashed between the rear seats that keeps bubbly at the optimal serving temperatures of six degrees centigrade for non-vintage Champagnes and 11 degrees centigrade for vintage labels.

The new Ghost series is also Rolls-Royce’s most technologically advanced lineup yet. LED and laser headlights offer over 600 meters (nearly 2,000 feet) of illuminated range. There’s also day- and night-time wildlife and pedestrian warning, a four-camera configuration with panoramic view, alertness assistant, collision and cross-traffic alerts, all-round and helicopter visibility, departure and lane change warning, self-parking, and doors that unlock from the inside.
The models also arrive with their own Wi-Fi hotspots, as well as state-of-the-art navigation and entertainment systems.

The plus version of the series, Ghost Extended, promises more rear legroom than all other four-seat sedans of its category.
In order for the larger model to retain Ghost’s “pure, minimalist design” and lines, Rolls-Royce simply extended the rear door and rear body so that any visual excess from the added length is subdued.
