Coca-Cola’s new festive campaign encourages viewers to be more present this festive season.
The global campaign, titled The Letter, urges audiences to “give something only you can give—yourself” this Christmas. It marks 100 years since the cola company first created holiday ads.
The video, created by Wieden + Kennedy London and directed by Taika Waititi, sees a girl handing her father a carefully written note to be delivered to Santa, before leaving for work.
Unfortunately, he has forgotten to post the letter due to work. He then goes on a mission to ensure the letter gets delivered to Santa before Christmas, traveling across the seas and into the jungle to reach the North Pole, where Santa is waiting in his trademark Coca-Cola truck.
The father finally opens his daughter’s letter, which reads, “Dear Santa, please bring daddy home for Christmas”, prompting the pair to reunite.
“This year, the Christmas season is set to be more meaningful than ever before. As a company, Coca-Cola has been celebrating the festive season through our advertising since the 1920s, featuring uplifting messages of unity and joy,” said Coca-Cola GB marketing director Kris Robbens.
“Our new advert reflects the real magic of Christmas – our greater appreciation for loved ones, a sense of community and our need to be present with each other this Christmas, above all else,” Robbens continued.
Coca-Cola has announced that it will not be carrying out its annual truck tour this year due to the pandemic. “We know it’s disappointing, but we’ll continue to share special Christmas moments throughout the festive season. We look forward to seeing you next year,” the company tweeted.
