Google Maps previously released a feature to indicate peak timings for public transport. Now, it has enhanced the tool by showing how packed a train or bus is in real-time.
The app utilizes data from other Maps users to calculate how many phones are in transit at a specific time. The function was developed to allow people to avoid commuting in crowded trains or buses amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Previously, the company only gave transit predictions using aggregated and anonymized Location History data. Now, it can tell exactly how busy a train or bus is at the moment.
Google also announced that it will provide timing details for 20 million venues around the world to help people avoid big crowds.
Since the pandemic, we've launched 250 new features to help you navigate and get things done safely.
