Facebook’s New Product Experimentation (NPE) team has launched a tool that allows users to create and share vibrant canvases.
Dubbed as a “digital zine creator” and a “GIF collage bonanza,” ‘E.gg’ lets users design collages with variations of text, images, and/or GIFs.
As Facebook acquired GIF repository Giphy in May, the new app will feature an expansive list of animated images for users to apply on their layouts.
Each creation in ‘E.gg’ comes with its own URL, so it can be shared with others without having to download the app to view it.
When the app was first released for a pilot program, it met criticisms from artists who stated that many GIFs were stolen without their permission. Facebook responded by stating that it was still in a testing phase and would fix the problems before its official launch.
Now that the app is ready, Facebook has addressed the problem by including an attribution section for each creation.
E.gg is now available from the iOS App Store in the US, and some of the sample works can be viewed here.
