A surgeon has revealed a hack to prevent your glasses from fogging up when you wear a face mask.
Dr Daniel M. Heiferman, MD, a neurosurgeon at Semmes Murphey Neurologic & Spine Institute in Memphis, tweeted last week, “If you’re having a hard time with glasses fogging or keeping your mask up over your nose, a simple [adhesive bandage] does wonders. Learned it in the OR.”
The bandage basically acts like a piece of tape, so your mask seals up to your skin and prevents your breath from escaping upwards and causing your lenses to fog up.
The tip has since gone viral, racking up over 60,000 retweets and over 100,000 likes.
Heifeiman also added that the cotton part of the bandage should be placed on the bridge of the nose, with half of it on the mask and the other half on the face. “With the cotton on the bridge, I found my nose didn’t get irritated after many days of use like other tapes would,” he wrote.
Heiferman said that he has been using this hack “for a long time—many years at this point.” He doesn’t wear glasses but he wears surgical loupes in the operating theatre, which “get fogged up just like glasses.” He tried using regular tape on his mask to prevent fogging, but he found that it was very irritating to his nose.
