Apple has just released its brand new AirPods Max, and many aren’t too impressed with the company’s design choices.
At first glance, the clunky headphones appear dissimilar to their tiny predecessor, the AirPods Pro, so many were confused by the product’s name. One user even posted a photo of a huge AirPods Pro and joked that it was the AirPods Max.
The company cleared the confusion by explaining that the AirPods Max Pro is pretty much “the magic of AirPods in a stunning over-ear design.”
Apple detailed that the over-ear headphones are able to execute a superior listening experience with its custom acoustic design, active noise cancellation, transparency mode, spatial audio, and adaptive EQ.
The gadget is also equipped with H1 chips, which are said to improve Bluetooth connectivity when the headphones are paired with another device.
However, the new gear is essentially a pair of headphones with two oval-shaped speakers and a sleek curved band that goes over the head. It is currently priced at US$549 and comes with a custom SmartCase.
Once the news broke on Twitter, critics were eager to generate memes out of the product’s design. One user likened the headphones to a kid’s toy, while others hinted that the headphones’ SmartCase appeared similar to a sleep mask and a bra.
