Prada has unveiled its first campaign under co-creative director Raf Simons following his debut SS21 show back in September, and it is rather existential.
The campaign features a group of models donning SS21 Prada looks while posing against a stark white background. Each shot is overlayed with a series of obscure questions, such as “Does ‘cloud’ make you think of data or sky?”, “Is future a romantic idea for you?” or, “Is nature out there, or in here?” The questions aim to push its audience to think about the ambiguity of life.
“The questions themselves meditate on these subjects: perceptions of self, views on technology, ideas, of humanity—diversity, inclusivity, sustainability,” explained the brand in a statement.
However, internet users seem to be taking things less seriously, coming up with a series of existential tweets-turned memes that were inspired from the campaign.
Some of the hilarious tweets read, “If you’re waiting for a waiter, does that not make you the ‘waiter’? Answer at Prada.com,” “Do you look at the window, or check the weather app first? Answer at Prada.com” and “If tomatoes are a fruit then isn’t ketchup a smoothie? Answer at Prada.com.”
