Ahead of the historic US inauguration of president Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris, The Guardian ran an advertisement to honor the historic event.
The advertisement, created together with agency Uncommon, features a combination of bold photography of Kamala Harris against a striking yellow backdrop. The poster is part of the publication’s Hope is Power campaign, which started in 2019.
The accompanying message reads, “1920 An American woman can vote. 1952 An Asian American woman can vote. 1965 A Black American woman can vote. 2021 A Black, Asian American woman can win.”
The timeline of progress proves that Hope is really Power and aims to give readers the facts to be able to challenge the status quo.
