WarnerMedia has released a public service announcement urging Americans to “mask up” to stop the spread of coronavirus by putting face masks on characters from iconic films.
Backed by the Ad Council and the Centers for Disease Control, the advertisement uses special effects to show characters from Wonder Woman, Harry Potter, Joker, It and The Matrix promoting the benefits of wearing a mask.
Harry Potter and Lord Voldermort are shown in masks in a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Joker dons a face covering while he dances down the stairs, and so does Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.
“Let’s get back to doing our favorite things, whatever that might be. Slow the spread. Mask up America,” reads the video’s text.
“WarnerMedia is proud to help educate and inform our fans about the importance of mask-wearing during this pandemic,” said Dennis Williams, senior VP of corporate social media at WarnerMedia.
“Wearing a mask is an effective way to protect ourselves and our loved ones from COVID-19. We hope that by seeing some of our favorite heroes and characters masked up, our fans will follow suit. Mask wearing is a simple step we all can take to show up and support our communities during this difficult time,” he continued.
The spot was created by WarnerMedia Studios’ in-house creative agency 10th Street Productions.
