While you would normally have to take a trip out to soak in the iconically minimalist, nature-forward ambiance of Apple’s retail stores, you’ll soon simply need to head to a Target location to do that. For months, the two companies have been working on creating an optimized browsing experience for customers, bringing the Apple ethos closer to everyday life.
A new distilled version of Apple’s retail outlets will be heading to a number of Target stores nationwide. A rendering of one of these zones, shown below, reveals an under-lit wooden table in the center, with displays of Apple Watches and other products at the back. A unique touch from Target is the set of halo lighting above. It will only take a few steps to cover the entire booth, but it sums up Apple’s design philosophy to a T.
According to a report by Fast Company, employees at the bite-sized Apple locations will be trained with knowledge about Apple products, but likely won’t offer technical support like they do at Genius Bars.
Target’s Apple shopping experience will extend beyond its physical kiosks; Apple will also have a dedicated digital storefront on the Target website and app. Customers will additionally stand to benefit from this tie-up, as Target perks apply with Apple products. For instance, they’ll get five percent off Apple purchases when they present their Target RedCard, as well as have the option to receive their orders via Drive Up, Order Pickup, or same-day delivery.
“Apple products are popular with Target’s guests, and this new, dedicated shopping experience offers enhanced service and expanded offerings, building on our strength as a go-to destination for electronics,” shared Christina Hennington, executive vice president and chief growth officer at Target, in a press release. “This new model was created with Target’s guests in mind, and we’ll continue to learn and enhance the experience through future rollouts later this year.”
The new concept will come to 17 Target outlets this year. The chain intends to introduce more of these kiosks afterward.
