Come 2027, space tourists will probably gravitate towards the Voyager Class space station, a celestial hotel primed to accommodate 400 guests.
The Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC), the company helming this otherworldly project, recently made preliminary announcements about the station and revealed that construction for the Voyager Class will commence in 2025. The OAC is part of The Gateway Foundation, which was founded with the intention to build the first spaceport.
The establishment will take in “both national space agencies conducting low gravity research and space tourists who want to experience life on a large space station with the comfort of low gravity and the feel of a nice hotel,” the OAC explained on its website.
Guests will certainly enjoy the space experience without feeling too out of home, as the hotel will include bars, a theater, a spa, restaurants, and a gym, aside from accommodation options.
The architecture of the Voyager Class station will look straight out of a Sci-Fi film. It will comprise two concentric rings; the inner ring will hold the docking hub, while the outer ring will serve as “the backbone of the station” with support for “habitable modules, solar panels, radiators, and a rail transport system.” The exterior will also be attached with multi-functional pods, some of which might be sold to NASA for research while others will be reserved for hotel services.
The Voyager Class station will rotate at different speeds and frequencies to provide “varying levels of artificial gravity.”
Some media outlets are describing that the space station is poised to be the “first-ever” space hotel. This claim is debatable, as Orion Span, a space tech firm from Houston, previously projected for its own space hotel to open in 2021 or 2022—though this is admittedly a lofty expectation, given that construction for it hasn’t started.
It will take at least half a decade before this establishment can be ready, but you can still indulge your space-travel fantasies with stellar renderings of the hotel, shown below.
