Your next stop for one-of-a-kind homeware and accents could be the same place you get your Swedish meatballs from. IKEA has announced a new collection of handmade homeware crafted by artisans around the world, and the best part is that this partnership will support small creators in regions that need backing.
The new LOKALT range, scheduled to arrive in June, will feature modern yet traditional ceramics and textiles spanning cushion covers, baskets, vases, rugs, throw blankets, and bowls from Jordan, Thailand, and India.
“LOKALT is a collection with modern and expressive take on traditional handicraft,” Maria O’Brian, Creative Leader at IKEA Sweden. “It’s full of quirky details that tell stories from the places where the products are actually made.”
O’Brian elaborates, “The ceramics are giving a tribute to the Thai way to serve food, there are glimpses of everyday life in Amman in the home textiles and expressive shapes inspired by the Indian heritage in cushion covers and rugs.”
According to Apartment Therapy, items from the selection will range between US$10 and US$229.
The range is part of IKEA’s social entrepreneur initiative to support equality and inclusion, as well as create job opportunities, for regions that might need them the most. Stay tuned as it debuts in 294 stores across 25 IKEA markets in June this year.
