Do you miss sitting next to your office best friend but still care about their safety? Zoom’s latest feature, ‘Immersive View’, might bring you a little closer to being around each other again.
Simulating the feeling of everyone being physically present in one space, Immersive View knocks down the video boxes that separate you from virtual call participants and gathers everybody in the same virtual background, be it an image of an auditorium or the office. If you’re familiar with Microsoft Teams’ Together mode, Zoom’s version is pretty similar to that.
With each call allowing up to 25 participants, it’ll be as if you can finally break free from your social bubble for a short moment.
Immersive View began testing last fall, but it is now ready for a global rollout. To access it, users will need to be on the Zoom desktop software, with Mac users needing to update their computer software to macOS 13.3 or newer.
But just because Immersive View is only available for desktops, it doesn’t mean mobile users will have an excuse to skip a seminar. For now, participants using the mobile version on Zoom will only be shown the Gallery View or Speaker View in Immersive View sessions.
Sometimes we need a change of scenery, even on Zoom! 🏞️ Now, you can use our new Immersive View to bring people into a scene, like a classroom, fireside chat, or boardroom. #ZoomProTip pic.twitter.com/HGh0bOpBho
