A few weeks ago, the estate of Kobe Bryant chose not to renew the late basketball star’s deal with Nike. While the sportswear brand said Kobe remained “a deeply loved member of the Nike family,“ rumors swirled that Bryant had actually planned to start his own sportswear brand before his tragic death in 2020.
As per a report by CNBC, intellectual property attorney Josh Gerben noted that Bryant’s estate has filed more than 13 trademarks since 2020.
“The filings would suggest Vanessa [Bryant] is building an IP portfolio for a new brand launch,” he told the news site.
Some of the trademark applications include ‘Play Gigi’s Way’, ‘Mamba’, ‘Mambacita’, ‘Baby Mambas’, and ‘Mamba League’. The filings were made for a whole range of categories, ranging from clothing to gym wear and footwear.
As per Highsnobiety, when Bryant’s estate split from Nike, Vanessa Bryant had hinted at future Kobe Bryant-themed products.
“My hope will always be to allow Kobe’s fans to get and wear his products. I will continue to fight for that,” she said.
