If you can’t get enough of that Wes Anderson aesthetic and have been yearning to recreate it in photography, there’s a way to do this quickly and easily. In a new tutorial, photographer Colin Smith of YouTube channel photoshopCAFE shows how you can “steal” that color grade—or that of any movie, really—and apply it to photos with no hassle on Photoshop.
The technique is so straightforward, you’ll wonder why you hadn’t thought of it in the first place. Smith captures screenshots from the trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, his muse for this video. These snapshots will serve as the color palette for his photos.
After that, it’s simply a matter of opening the Match Color feature on Photoshop and selecting your favorite screenshot as the source for your photo. Just like that, your picture will instantly take on the cinematic color grade of the screengrab.
Certainly, this tip isn’t only applicable for Photoshop; you can also use movie screenshots to determine the color palette of your next project, whether it’s a poster or website.
Smith walks you through the absurdly simple process in the video below.
