Some of the most popular dating apps are collaborating with the White House to motivate more people to get their COVID-19 vaccine shots, offering special badges and other perks for vaccinated users.
Bumble, Tinder, Hinge, Match, OkCupid, BLK, Chispa, Plenty of Fish, and Badoo are among the apps introducing new features to help people meet others who have also been vaccinated.
According to NPR, research from OkCupid suggests that users who are vaccinated or plan to get vaccinated soon attract 14% more matches than those who aren’t.
Each of the dating apps will be offering its own perks. For example, as per Axios, Tinder users will be able to add ‘Getting Vaxed’ or ‘Vaccines Save Lives’ stickers to their profiles, and will be awarded with a ‘Super Like’ to use within the app.
On OkCupid, users will also be able to add an ‘I’m Vaccinated’ badge to their profiles, receive a free ‘boost’ to direct more attention to their profiles, and choose to be paired with other vaccinated users.
The White House hopes that this initiative—among many others like a lottery—will encourage more people to sign up for vaccinations.
While nearly 130 million US citizens have been fully vaccinated, the rate of vaccinations has been declining steadily, with the average rate down by nearly 50% from a peak in April, as per NPR.
As White House senior adviser Andy Slavitt puts it, “we have finally found the one thing that makes us all more attractive: a vaccine.”
