Ahead of the first game of the 2021 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) season, Seattle Storm players received their 2020 championship rings—which aren’t just really shiny but also come with an important social justice message.
Etched onto the right side of the gold ring is a raised fist, with the words “Say Her Name,” a tribute to Black female victims of police brutality.
It comes as WNBA players devoted last season to promoting the message, especially calling for justice for 26-year-old EMT Breonna Taylor, who was killed in her home in March 2020.
On the front of the ring is a studded top featuring four diamonds, highlighting the four championships won by the team. The Seattle Storm logo is etched on the left side of the ring and the team’s ‘Strong Than Ever’ mantra is engraved on the inside.
Take a 360-degree look at the ring below.
