Ever wondered what those colored dots on the back of your snack bags mean?
Food marketer Sonya Gozalez Mier shared in a TikTok video that the patches appear on all sorts of food packaging, and here’s why. They’re color control patches that ensure the shades printed on the packet of your favorite chips come out right.
Mier, whose reveal corroborates with reports explaining the circles, detailed that colors on food packaging are printed layer by layer—incorporating the hues featured in those little circles—before attaining their final appearance.
This helps the manufacturer to quickly identify if the colors in the circles are correct, which would then translate to a correctly-printed package.
The next time you’re in the snack aisle, be sure to flip the bags over and see what color combinations their packaging is made out of.
