Intoxicated on sustainability, Corona Extra opened the UK’s first 100% natural bar as an extension of its beer also being brewed with all-natural ingredients earlier this month.
The seats and bar area of the socially-distanced 100% Natural Bar—which was open from June 3 through 7 at Porthminster Beach in Cornwall, England—were constructed without the usual suspects of concrete, plastic, or metal. In place of those, eco designer brought the popup bar to life with nature-blessed materials like sand, bamboo, clay, and wood by eco designer Molly Windels-Lyte. Even its sanitizer dispensers were built from sandstone, Ad Age reports.
Patrons were, of course, served ice-cold Corona beers, similarly concocted with non-man-made ingredients. The setup was conceptualized by advertising agency David Bogota and communications consultancy 3 Monkeys Zeno.
The bar’s opening coincided with World Oceans Day, along with Corona’s recent announcement that it is the first global beverage brand to attain a net-zero plastic footprint.
After it was all pulled down, the installation’s materials were taken apart to be reused or recycled, or returned to their natural settings at the beach.
Following this setup, Corona teamed up with advertising firm Wieden+Kennedy and production studio UNIT9 to create an AR experience illustrating consumers’ plastic consumption. Through the Plastic Reality quiz and filter, users would be able to visualize their plastic usage with imagery of bottles spilling into their homes, before being directed to a set of resources to find out more about how to limit plastic waste.
