A nostalgic favorite gets a dash of rainbow by way of UK food delivery service Deliveroo, which is launching alphabet soup with only the letters LGBTQQIAAP.
With a new zest to the family go-to, the company hopes to bring conversations about gender, identity and acceptance to the dinner table. The LGBTQQIAAP letters celebrate the broad spectrum of sexual identities in the queer community, while a side of colorful edible gems offers a fabulous sprinkling of cheer.
And because this tomato and basil pasta soup is inclusive, it is also 100% vegan to satisfy all dietary requirements.
The cupboard staple, with a limited run of 1,000 cans, arrives with a familiar wrapper. Only this time, it is fronted with the LGBTQ+ flag and the Deliveroo blue.
The special-edition soup will start being available on June 28, the anniversary of the first Pride parade in history, at £1 (US$1.40) per can. Customers near participating Deliveroo Editions outlets in London, Manchester, Brighton, Leeds, and Cambridge can order one without paying for service or delivery fees by looking up the LGBTQQIAAP Soup Shop in the Deliveroo app.
All proceeds will be donated to the Switchboard LGBT+ charity, which provides a non-judgmental helpline for LGBTQ+ individuals in need of support. The nonprofit says it has received a 42% rise in calls from transgender and gender-nonconforming people over the lockdown in comparison with 2019.
As part of Deliveroo’s ‘Deloveroo’ initiative for inclusivity and representation, the delivery platform has also opened the ‘School for Allies’ website to offer support, advice, and information surrounding gender and sexuality.
