One day, passersby were just staring at bare ground. The next, the premise was taken over by a whole 10-story building.
The speedy build was completed by Chinese manufacturing company BROAD Group at its headquarters in Changsha, China. The entire apartment block, called the Living Building, was realized in just 28 hours and 45 minutes using modular steel units.
An impressive timelapse walks through the process. Pure stainless steel structures measuring the size of standard containers were stacked on top of each other by three cranes, before being bolted together and fixed with electricity and water systems.
BROAD Group says it used its own stainless steel B-Core slabs to piece the building together, as they are apparently 10 times lighter than the usual materials.
In spite of their portability, the modular units are also said to be “100 times stronger” than regular components, ensuring they stay intact in the event of a natural disaster.
The company claims that the same method can be applied even for the construction of 200-story buildings. Imagine a new skyscraper popping up before your eyes.
