In announcing the return of its restaurants after drawn-out closures, McDonald’s France is once again using its secret sauce—minimalism—to tempt the taste buds without mentioning its name or logo.
The chain’s international reputation allows advertising agency TBWA\Paris to keep things interesting, having previously created visuals that need little to no copy. Its latest campaign—“Who’s that Pokémon” style—only shows blown-up, 70-pixel graphics, along with the words: “Guess who’s back.”
Without additional cues beyond form and color, you should be able to identify the McDonald’s menu items from the images, namely the Big Mac, Filet-O-Fish, Cheeseburger, and French fries.
If the posters are too abstract, do yourself a favor and quit salads. They’re hurting your vision.
