Apple has reportedly told real-estate developers that it wants to lease a large production campus in Los Angeles for its growing entertainment operations.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the tech giant is considering several possible locations for its new hub, which could span more than half a million square feet. Since Apple currently leases soundstages to film in LA, this would definitely complement its existing venture.
Apple TV+ has streamed some acclaimed shows and movies since its launch in 2019, such as Ted Lasso and The Morning Show. However, the service is still pretty small compared to other streaming rivals, like Netflix and Amazon Prime. The Wall Street Journal states that it is also “lacking the scale many producers assumed it would have.”
Indeed, considering its well-carved territory in podcast and music streaming, it feels almost natural to move into the movies and television sector.
