Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony Strikingly Takes To The Sky With 1,800 Drones

Despite hosting the Opening Ceremony in an empty Olympic Stadium, Japan still did its best to put on a stunning show to commemorate the start of the 2020 Summer Games.
One of the most spectacular moments was when over 1,800 drones took to the sky – choreographing the image of a revolving globe in mid-air.
While this display did not surpass the current Guinness World Record holder, Genesis, which lit up the Shanghai skyline with 3,281 drones, it still was an impressive feat.
According to Engadget, the fleet of 1,824 drones seamlessly hovered above the Olympic Stadium, first displaying the symbol of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before forming the revolving Earth. Accompanying the drone show was a rendition of John Lennon’s famed Imagine, which was reworked by Hans Zimmer specially for the Olympics.
