Boxabl, a startup that produces “instant” houses which can be flat-packed and shipped directly to the buyer, currently takes about a day to set up.
If its name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve heard about Tesla founder Elon Musk moving into one of Boxabl’s 375-square-foot homes.
Now, as the company plans to expand, it’s targeting a set-up time of only 90 minutes per home. Its first product is the Casita, which Musk lives in, starting from US$49,500.
It eventually wants to offer a variety of sizes and shapes, which can be stacked and combined in different ways to become a customized home for every need. As of now, Boxabl has a sizeable waitlist, with the US Federal Government among its first clients awaiting these stackable homes.
With such a short set-up time, and the foldable homes being able to be delivered to customers nationwide without the need for a wide load, it’s no wonder Boxabl is quickly becoming a household name for disrupting the construction industry.
Its unique foldable design has given it the edge over competitors who are also 3D-printing homes, as the others still require a wide load to ship, plus longer set-up times.
“The actual setup of the unit itself is very fast. We’ve done it [at our facility] in under an hour,” Boxabl co-founder Galiano Tiramani told CNET.
