Ever wondered if your cat genuinely likes you, or is just putting up with having you around because you feed it? Now, a new app could help decipher if your cat is happy, mad at you, or just has an RBF.
Tably is an app designed by pet health firm Sylvester.ai, which uses your smartphone camera to analyze cats’ facial features and potentially identify if they’re happy or in pain.
As reported by Mic and Reuters, Tably’s artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t based on just guesses. It uses the Feline Grimace Scale (FGS) from veterinary science to decipher your cats’ feelings.
The FGS is a scientific matrix created by Paulo Steagall, a professor of veterinary anesthesia and pain management at the University of Montreal, who published his findings in 2019. Since then, Sylvester.ai has partnered with tech companies AltaML and The Bar G to develop machine learning capabilities that would help pet owners decode their cats’ expressions using AI.
How it works: users will upload a picture of their cat to Tably, which would subsequently map out the cat’s expression and analyze it using the FGS matrix, before producing a reading. Pause for the moment of truth, and you’ll find out if your cat loves you half as much as you love it.
