LEGO has just revealed one of its most impressive builds to date – a life-size model of the Toyota Supra GR. The 1:1 model was made out of 477,303 bricks in commemoration of the popular sports car’s 35th anniversary. And the best part? The car actually runs!
This isn’t the first time the toy maker has recreated vehicles. In June, it unveiled a life-size model of the Lamborghini Sián, which was also built from more than 400,000 components.
According to Robb Report, while most of the Supra model was made from LEGO bricks, its wheels, driver’s seat, steering wheel, gauge cluster, and badging were all taken from a real vehicle. The “car” even comes with working headlights and is painted in a hue similar to the original’s.
Staff spent 3,000 hours in developing the model before adding on another 2,400 hours for the build itself, said Toyota Gazoo Racing. The entire model weighs a staggering 4,156 pounds, and comes with an electric drivetrain that allows it to hit the road.
However, if you’re thinking of racing pals in a LEGO supercar, it won’t be possible just yet. The LEGO Supra can only reach a maximum speed of 17 mph, so it won’t be too fast on the track.
Visitors traveling to LEGOLAND Japan will be able to view the 1:1 Supra model from now till October 11. If you’re thinking of constructing your own at home, check out the 299-piece LEGO Toyota GR Supra Speed Champions set instead.
