Instagram users have begun to receive notifications of the platform letting them know that the now-familiar “swipe up to see more” sentiment is about to see its end. From August 30, there will be a new way to attach links to stories, whether or not you have 10,000 followers.
Shared by tech reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong and confirmed by YouTuber Sam Sheffer, the platform is rolling out a new sticker that appears to fall in the same family as the existing ‘Mention’ and ‘Location’ tags.
Similarly to how tapping on a ‘Mention’ sticker takes you to the person’s
Instagram profile, tapping the ‘Link’ sticker will open the associated webpage.
Unlike the current ‘Swipe Up’ gesture to attach links to a story, this new sticker looks to be available for everyone to use. Currently, only users with 10,000 followers and above would be able to share links via their stories, while others would have to resort to directing their followers to the link in their Instagram bio—or through
roundabout means.
It has been reported that Instagram has been testing this since early this year. A few months later, the feature seems to have been deemed satisfactory enough to be introduced to the public next week.
