At its Alta Moda couture show in Venice over the weekend, Italian fashion house
Dolce & Gabbana announced its pioneer home décor collection,Casa, adorned in intricate, colorful patterns.
“We wanted an explosion of colors, emotions, scents,” the designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana
explain to
Vogue. “Each theme embodies a different lifestyle.”
The expansion into this line came as a result of spending several months over the last year at home in lockdown. “The circumstances we have experienced recently have led us to live the home environment even more intensely,” the duo state, saying that they want to “devote to it the attention that the daily frenzy often makes us lose.”
Every piece carries one of four signature motifs: Mediterranean Blue, Carretto, Leo, and Zebra. The vibrant patterns aren’t exactly of the minimalist style, but make the furnishings stand out like art pieces in their own right.
There are intricately upholstered sofas, a round table boldly splashed with color, and stools and a rug donning classy leopard print, to name a few. These were created in collaboration with Venetian heritage artists such as glassblowers and textile artisans,
Vogue reports.
Although the Dolce & Gabbana name doesn’t exactly feel synonymous with “sofa” or “side table” type offerings, this isn’t the brand’s first experimentation with home-related objects. A previous partnership had the brand hand-painting a hundred refrigerators for Salone de Mobile.
Another collaboration saw a line of luxe
kitchen appliances created together with Smeg, including juicers and coffee machines.
Dolce & Gabbana hasn’t yet specified a release date for the Casa collection, but it will be available to order
online soon. The brand also states that the pieces will be in stores worldwide, albeit at a later date.
