Last week, Ford Germany unveiled a special version of its popular Ranger Raptor. The “very gay,” LGBTQ+ version of the truck was created in response to a homophobic comment on social media, which said the automaker’s new ‘Performance Blue’ color was “gay.”
Ford said the comment “stopped us in our tracks,” prompting it to create an animation featuring an actual “gay” car. Then, it decided to recreate the automobile in real life.
The new ‘Very Gay Raptor’ is not subtle—it’s painted in a bright, sparkly gold, with a rainbow motif stretching around its sides, and a pink heart on the back to boot. Upon posting a picture of the new car on Twitter, Ford quipped: “‘Very Gay’ was a compliment, right?”

This amazing transformation took the Ford team over 60 hours, with most of the time spent wrapping the car in 30 square meters (323 square feet) of gold-glittered foil. The company had wanted to “make [its] position standing against discriminatory speech very clear,” according to PinkNews.

Interestingly, this isn’t the brand’s first foray into LGBTQ+ matters. Back in 1998, the company wrapped a Ford KA in rainbow colors to mark the first time it participated in Christopher Street Day, the German equivalent of the Pride parade.
The unique ‘Very Gay Raptor’ was used as the official Ford vehicle for this year’s parade, with many LGBTQ+ folks at the event stopping to snap a picture with the hard-to-miss ride.
