On Sunday, a Carolina Panthers statue outside the Bank of America Stadium came alive. Something about the 2021 NFL season had awoken it, and the fierce creature jumped around the arena in the leadup to kickoff, savaging the New York Jets.
Spectators weren’t imagining it—the football team confirmed the sighting in the tweet, introducing its new “mixed-reality panther.”
In a clip shared for the rest of the world to see, the big cat is recorded scaling videoboards and ripping off the rival’s flag, before leaping onto the field and mingling with players.
Some viewers have jokingly called out the team for cheating during this sneak attack. “Seems unfair to the other team, assuming the big cat knows anything about football,” one Redditor commented. “Right. This thing will dominate. I want the rules checked,” another replied.
According to eyewitnesses, the moment was beamed onto the jumbotron, so nobody was actually hurt at the scene.
What in the Wakanda is going on here?!?

To make it more realistic, the cat should have knocked a big class of water off the top of the stadium. https://t.co/VBJaM133sE
