When it sets sail in March 2022, Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas might do without the claustrophobia-inducing spaces stereotypical of cruise ships. Stretching 1,188 feet in length, it is destined to be the largest cruise ship in the world.
While the ship’s construction isn’t a secret, the company has confirmed that it will embark on its maiden voyage in March 2022. The Wonder of the Seas will first depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, en route to the Caribbeans, Insider reports. The initial plan was to set sail from China, but Royal Caribbean eventually went with the US as homeport.
The vessel can carry up to 6,988 guests and 2,300 crew members, who will wander around its eight distinct “neighborhoods,” each one specializing in a theme. “Neighborhoods are how the cruise ship is differentiated for easier navigation by guests,” the company explains.
Most notably, there’ll be an all-new ‘Suite’ neighborhood privately accessible to guests staying in suites. Here, they’ll be able to tuck into meals from upmarket dining establishments, lounge at an expansive sun deck with “unparalleled ocean views,” and chill at a private lounge.

The cruise ship also has its own ‘Central Park’ neighborhood, “the first living park at sea” which will house more than 20,000 live plants. As its name suggests, this is a neighborhood for everyone, and will include shopping boutiques, dining, and an open-air oasis with live music in the evening.
A Coney Island-inspired ‘Boardwalk’ is an entertainment hub with rock-climbing walls, a carousel, and AquaTheater shows.

Those with a taste for adventure should zip over to the ‘Pool & Sports Zone’, with a 10-deck-high zipline and water attractions abound. For everyday recreation, there are also basketball and volleyball courts, as well as a mini-golf course. The ‘Entertainment Place’ hosts world-class performers, a ‘Youth Zone’ offers adventure courses for younger explorers, while guests can head over to the ‘Vitality Spa & Fitness Center’ for exercise classes and spa sessions.
Finally, the ‘Royal Promenade’, dubbed “the pulsing heart of the ship,” is where you’ll find core shopping, dining, and entertainment options. It’s the go-to spot for a coffee or tea break, or if you’re in the mood for live entertainment any time of the day.
