COVID-19’s dreadful impact on the world has compelled Durex to encourage protection in another form.
To encourage people to get fully vaccinated, Durex Australia has sent out an ‘Erectometer’ truck as a big, hard PSA in New South Wales. The moving billboard, produced by the brand’s in-house creative team RB Studio, records the state’s vaccination data in real-time and reacts accordingly.
The higher the vaccination rate, the more aroused the display gets. B&T reports that when 80% residents have had both dosages, the Erectometer will attain “vax climax.”
While vaccination statuses aren’t directly linked to sexual health, the fact is that lockdowns have put off too many romps. People have also been dating less as a result of restaurant closures and physical contact being frowned upon.
The goal, therefore, is to “get it [the vaccine rate] up to get it on.” To catch the gaze of more voyeurs, the Erectometer will traverse Sydney’s cheekily-named Homebush, Mona Vale, Balls Head Bay, and Pleasure Point.
All this comes in time for New South Wales’ so-called Freedom Day, for which Durex Australia is celebrating a version of its own. Double-vaxxers all over the nation will be able to redeem free condoms by presenting their vaccination passports on a dedicated site for ‘free-DOM Day’—get it?
“As singles prepare to mingle for the first time in almost four months, Durex wants to ensure Aussies are protected for the increase in closeness, physical intimacy and sexual connection that the end of lockdown brings,” remarks Henry Turgoose, marketing director at Durex parent Reckitt Health.
“Durex’s free-DOM Day is all about doubling your protection. While we’re all excited to bring a little bit more fun into our lives, it’s essential to do it safely both for yourself and your close contacts.”
